Hi I recently picked up PCalc 3.6 for iOS and I'm very impressed. A big thing I'd love to see though is the ability to save and import/export layout formats. That's not something that currently exists, is it?

It would be nice to load a different layout for a different purpose. And I spent quite a while setting mine up, I will be sad if it gets lost for some reason; so having a backup file would be comforting.

If you could do it with layouts, a similar functionality with user-written functions might be good too, but I haven't gotten into that part yet.

One way to manage the data could be through the application data on iTunes, I've seen other apps that let you access data files that way.

Of course, you'd probably have to worry some about security issues. Hopefully that's not so hard to make the whole idea unworkable.

Thanks for the great app!

It's possible right now for all the user stuff - use the share button to save stuff out as a document file, and just open that document to import it again. Even works if you send that document to a Mac.

Oh that's great! I hadn't found the share button. I just found it for the functions, but I'm still a little confused, if you can help...

For functions, I see that I can, say, email myself a file. But I don't see an option to save anything as a document file? Closest thing is I can save it to Google drive. But from there I don't see what you mean about opening the document to import it again. If I try to open in in Google drive it just makes an error (which seems logical.)

For the layout, I don't see a share button at all? Where should I be looking?

Sorry to be noobish, but thanks for the help! Let me know if posting a screenshot would make it clearer what I'm looking at.

Well, emailing yourself a file should work the same as saving it to Google drive - basically, anything that plugs into the iOS sharing function should let you save or send a file. When you have a file, opening it should open PCalc. Such as, emailing it to yourself - open the file in Mail, and it should open PCalc.

For the layouts, go to Vertical / Horizontal Layout in the settings, there's a share button there for the selected layout.

Hope that helps!
